How the scenes are timed
hook first, ask last
The opening gets three seconds and the call to action gets three to five. The scenes between them share the rest in whole seconds, so the timings always add up to the length you picked.
Fifteen seconds gets four scenes, thirty gets six, forty-five gets seven and sixty gets eight. Shorter videos drop the middle scenes first and keep the hook, the product, the proof and the ask.
Voiceover that fits the scene
Every scene has a full line and a shorter one. The builder picks the longest line that fits the scene at about two and a half words a second, and flags a line that is still too much to say. That usually means a long product name or call to action, so shorten it or give the scene more time.
Five hook styles
- Problem: open on the annoyance, then show it gone.
- Before and after: lock the camera and repeat the same frame.
- Unboxing: the lift, the reveal and a first honest reaction.
- Tutorial: the result first, then the steps.
- Gift guide: say who it is for in the first line.

Before you film
line up the rest of the job
Pick the opener with the holiday UGC hook ideas, drop the line you like into the product and benefit boxes and let the sheet build the scenes.
If the video is for a brand, settle the dates, usage and payment first with the holiday UGC brief template, and work out your price with the rate calculator. Read usage rights explained before you agree to ads.
Still need the brand to say yes? How to pitch UGC brands covers the cold email and the follow-up, and how to pitch brands in Q4 puts the dates in order.
The Black Friday version
one switch, three changes
Switch the sheet to Black Friday and the opening line points at the sale, the scene before the ask carries your offer and its end date as a text card, and the call to action closes with the date.
Type the offer in the brand's words and the date it ends. The sheet uses what you type, so the figures on screen are the ones in the brief. The checklist adds a Black Friday group: match the brief word for word, show the real end date, and film a cut without the offer so the video still works afterwards.

Quick answers
Can I use the shot list for any product?
Yes. Type the product and the one benefit you want viewers to remember. Where a scene needs a detail only you know, the line shows it in [brackets] for you to fill in.
How long should a UGC video be?
Long enough to land the hook, one piece of proof and one ask. Fifteen to thirty seconds suits most products; forty-five or sixty seconds suits a tutorial or a story. The brand's brief sets the final length.
Do the safe zones differ between TikTok, Reels and Shorts?
Slightly. Each app puts its buttons, caption and account name in different places, so the delivery checklist gives the top, bottom and right margins for the platform you pick. Text that fits the tightest of the three works on all of them.
What does the Black Friday variant change?
The opening line points at the sale, the scene before the ask carries your offer and end date as a text card, the ask ends with the date, and the checklist gains a Black Friday group.
Can I print the shot list?
Yes. Use Print one-page sheet, or print the page from your browser: only the shot list and delivery checklist are printed.
